COVID-19 Contact Tracing (prototype)

Description

‘Access Portal’, California Connected’s contact tracing program, is powered through Salesforce. It allows officials to locate and inform people who may have been exposed to a pandemic by an infected person. States and local governments are able to establish a connected network of command centers on top of the Salesforce platform with the ability to manage large volumes of inbound and outbound communication. For citizens who test positive, or are showing symptoms, officials are able to coordinate the resources and personnel needed to ensure critical follow-up steps. These steps are essential for keeping the rest of the community safe.

My role in the Access Portal project was to design an inclusive mobile-first solution for contact tracing, case investigation, and outbreak investigation. I designed across different scenarios, such as free testing events, exposure events assessments, and referral services via mobile units. Design considerations I had were:

  • Designed for a tablet, such as IPAD, as field intake volunteers would be moving around so we had to optimize for mobility without limiting screen size too much

  • I worked in low fidelity to put emphasis on interaction as opposed to content, which would be done later in the process.

About

During my summer 2021 internship with Accenture, I had the opportunity to work for California Connected, California’s contact tracing program. Creating a robust contact tracing program is important to slow down the spread of infectious diseases, such as the COVID-19 virus so I was thrilled to be working on such an important project for the state’s public health.

My roles:

  • User Experience researcher

  • Designer

  • Storyboarding
