Trammel of Archimedes
Description
A trammel of Archimedes is a mechanism that generates the shape of an ellipse. It consists of two shuttles that are confined ("trammeled") to perpendicular channels or rails and a rod that is attached to the shuttles by pivots at fixed positions along the rod.
In my version of the trammel I added several notches on the handle for the second shuttle so that the path can take on elliptical paths of different sizes. I also added a hole for a pencil at the end of the handle so that a user can draw out the elliptical path.
